3 Best techniques..

Do you believe copywriting techniques are as powerful as they seem? For me, sometimes I'm not fully convinced. But how about we test it out?

I searched on Google, and the first three things that popped up were:

1. Tell a story

2. Speak directly to the reader

3. Be positive

Alright, I’ll give you three minutes to think about what these really mean. Then, come back and learn from my explanations.

Let’s start with telling a story:

“The boy looks terrified. He can hear doors slamming with thunderous sounds. He can’t see an inch ahead, but he keeps walking and walking until...he hits the knob... (**open the door**). Whoosh—the wind blows in his face. He screams and faints. When he wakes up, the room is filled with the cold breeze of dead people...the smell of blood. But why is a little boy like him here? He saw... a shadow... run...”

You were with that little boy, weren’t you? That’s the power of storytelling...it connects with people emotionally. You might say, "But I’m not a creative writer!" Who said you can’t use stories in copywriting or sales? Here's an example:

You are the hero. Your goal is to write like a wizard, but you don’t know how. You need a guide. You get the guide, pass the tests, slay the obstacles, and in the end, you achieve your goal.

That’s your story! It’s an outline, sure, but stories can be simple yet effective. Put stories into your copy whenever it fits, though not every piece needs one.

2. Speak directly to the reader:

“You might want this book if you’re stuck in tutorial hell—like you, a programmer.”

“This book is blah blah blah.”

“Do you want this book? Because I think you’re struggling with getting out of tutorial hell.”

How do you feel about each line? If you were a programmer stuck in tutorial hell, the last line stands out the most, right? Why? Because I’m speaking directly to you—your problem, your needs. I’m using personal pronouns like “you” and “I,” making it feel like we’re having a one-on-one conversation. So, focus on speaking directly to your audience. The more personal, the better.

3. Be positive:

This is a new one for me, but I’ll break it down. It’s related to human psychology. Think about these two situations:

- The chance of dying from drinking coffee is 5%

- The chance of surviving from drinking coffee is 95%

(These are fake stats, just for the sake of explanation).

Which one sounds better to you? The positive one, right? 95% survival just sounds nicer than focusing on the negative. So, try to use positive framing in your copy—unless you’re using a problem-solution technique.

Alright, for today, we covered:

1. Tell your audience a story

2. Speak directly to them

3. Be positive

Got it?
